Two ancient sites in Nazca. Chauchilla Cemetery has 7 tickets and tours to book; Nazca Lines has 69 tickets and tours to book. The table and the two notes below put them side by side; the full pages have what to see, the ticket and the timing for each.
Chauchilla Cemetery is a Nazca culture burial ground in the desert 30 km south of Nazca, Peru, used from about AD 200 to the 9th century. Open tombs show mummies seated in their original pits, still with long braided hair and traces of cotton cloth. It is the easiest place in Peru to see ancient burials in the ground where they were laid.
The Nazca Lines are giant figures and straight lines scraped into the desert of southern Peru between about 500 BC and AD 500. Hundreds of designs, from a hummingbird and a monkey to lines running for kilometres, cover a plain of some 75,000 hectares. They are best seen from a small plane, with lookout towers as a cheaper alternative.
