Best ancient sites in Lima

Lima’s four sites are all adobe and all pre-Inca, built long before the Spanish city. Pachacamac, about 40 km south-east of the centre, is the great one: a pilgrim oracle used for over a thousand years, with adobe pyramids, the Inca Temple of the Sun above the sea and a museum holding the wooden idol of the god. The other three stand among apartment blocks: Huaca Pucllana in Miraflores, a stepped pyramid of the Lima culture; Mateo Salado, five Ychsma pyramids near Pueblo Libre; and the smaller, heavily rebuilt Huaca Huallamarca in San Isidro.
