Two ancient sites in Portugal. Conimbriga has 6 tickets and tours to book; Great Dolmen of Zambujeiro has 1 ticket or tour to book. The table and the two notes below put them side by side; the full pages have what to see, the ticket and the timing for each.
Conimbriga is one of the largest excavated Roman towns in Portugal, 16 km south of Coimbra, with a forum, baths, an aqueduct and houses floored with mosaics inside a late Roman wall about 1.5 km long. The House of the Fountains, where water jets still play among the mosaics, is the highlight, and a museum on site shows the finds.
The Great Dolmen of Zambujeiro is a Neolithic burial chamber in the cork-oak country south-west of Evora, built between about 4000 and 3000 BC. With upright stones up to about eight metres tall, it is one of the largest dolmens in Iberia. The site is free, quiet and protected by a metal shelter, and it pairs well with the Almendres stone circle.
