Roman Amphitheatre of Lecce vs Roman Theatre of Lecce
Two ancient sites in Lecce. Roman Amphitheatre of Lecce has no online ticket listed; Roman Theatre of Lecce has no online ticket listed. The table and the two notes below put them side by side; the full pages have what to see, the ticket and the timing for each.
The Roman Amphitheatre of Lecce lies half buried in the middle of Piazza Sant'Oronzo, the main square of the baroque city. About a third of the arena has been dug out, enough to show the curve of the seating and the arena floor. It is free to view from the square and is the starting point for most walks through Lecce.
The Roman Theatre of Lecce is a small theatre of Roman Lupiae, hidden among the courtyards of baroque palaces a few minutes from Piazza Sant'Oronzo. It was found only in 1929, in private gardens, and its semicircle of seats can be seen from the street above. A small museum next to it explains the finds.
