North America

Most visited ancient sites in North America

Only six sites on this continent have published visitor counts in the catalogue, and the years differ. Mesa Verde in Colorado leads with about 480,000 visits in 2024, a National Park Service count of everyone entering the park, not only those who join a cliff-dwelling tour. El Tajín, the city of niches near Papantla in Veracruz, follows with 386,406 in 2017. Montezuma Castle, Wupatki, Tuzigoot and Canyon de Chelly are counted for 2020, when the pandemic cut travel, so their usual totals are higher than shown.
