Oldest ancient sites in Egypt

Founding dates on this Egyptian list run from about 3100 BC to 1500 BC, all from the Old, Middle and early New Kingdoms. Memphis heads it with the traditional date of its foundation by Menes, though what you see at Mit Rahina today, the fallen colossus of Ramesses II and the alabaster sphinx, is far later. Saqqara is dated by Djoser's Step Pyramid of about 2670 BC, followed by Sneferu's pyramids at Dahshur and Meidum and then Giza. Valley of the Kings and Deir el-Medina at Luxor close the list.
