Ancient-site tours in Palenque

From Palenque the tours head south-east into the Lacandon forest, to Yaxchilan, reached only by a boat of 40 to 45 minutes down the Usumacinta from Frontera Corozal, and to Bonampak, known for its painted rooms. The one-day trip leaves around 6 am and returns 12 to 14 hours later, usually with meals; two-day versions sleep in a Lacandon lodge, some with rafting or a jungle walk. Carry your passport for the army checkpoints, and check which entry and community fees are included.
