Ephesus is the reason most visitors stay in Kusadasi: minibuses reach Selcuk in about 30 minutes, and a taxi to the upper gate lets you walk downhill through the city. Cruise groups crowd the main street from about 9.30 am, so arrive at the 8 am opening. Further out, the Agora of Smyrna in Izmir, Aphrodisias, around two and a half hours inland, and the Pergamon Acropolis above Bergama all work as car or tour days. The Mausoleum and theatre at Bodrum, and the Kos agora and Asklepieion across the strait, suit a separate trip.
