Theatres & Amphitheatres in Spain

Mérida's is the finest, with a two-storey marble stage front and the amphitheatre beside it on a combined ticket. Cartagena's Augustan theatre is reached through a museum by Rafael Moneo; Tarragona's amphitheatre looks straight out to the Mediterranean; Málaga's lies free to enter below the Alcazaba; Sagunto's stage wall was rebuilt to full height, which still divides opinion. Summer heat is fierce in Extremadura and the south, so in Mérida go at opening or after 6 pm.
