Ancient sites near London

Only one site on this page is in the capital: the Billingsgate Roman House and Baths, under an office block on Lower Thames Street near Monument station, seen only on scheduled guided tours that sell out early. Everything else is a day trip of about 120 km to Wiltshire. Stonehenge is reached by train from Waterloo to Salisbury and the tour bus, with Old Sarum on the edge of Salisbury; Avebury is reached via Swindon from Paddington. Stonehenge tickets are cheaper booked ahead.
