Near a city

Ancient sites near Thessaloniki

Within the city, the Roman Forum sits between Egnatia and Agiou Dimitriou streets, an easy walk from Aristotelous Square. Pella is about 45 minutes away by the hourly KTEL bus towards Edessa, and the Aigai royal tombs at Vergina about an hour and a quarter by car; most day tours combine the two. Dion lies off the motorway towards Athens, beneath Mount Olympus, while Philippi, near Kavala, and Stobi, across the border in North Macedonia, are long days by car. On summer Tuesdays Pella and Vergina open only at noon.
