Tours in AlUla centre on Hegra, the Nabataean city of carved tombs, where entry is only by guided tour from the visitor centre. Operators sell the standard visit, vintage Land Rover rides, sunset expeditions and sunrise balloon flights, and full-day combinations adding Dadan, the Dadanite and Lihyanite capital, and the inscriptions of Jabal Ikmah, often with Elephant Rock and the old town. Taxis are scarce at the sites, so private transport helps. From October to March the early and late slots sell out first.
