Italy's free list is short, because most of its ruins sit behind a state ticket, and it leans to the south and the islands. Pantalica, the rock-cut necropolis inland from Syracuse, is an open reserve with no ticket office, reached only by car. In Cagliari the Tuvixeddu necropolis park is free, but guided tomb visits are charged. Lecce has a free amphitheatre in Piazza Sant'Oronzo and a Roman theatre seen from the street, and in Rome the arches of the Aqua Claudia cross the Parco degli Acquedotti, a short walk from metro line A.
