Europe

Ancient sites with free entry in Europe

Europe's free sites are mostly ruins woven into towns or left open on hillsides and moors. Diocletian's Palace in Split leads: its streets are the old town, while the cathedral, bell tower and cellars are ticketed. The Roman Theatre of Malaca below the Alcazaba can be seen from the street at any hour, the Acropolis of Rhodes is an open hill reached by city bus, and the Aqueduct of Segovia spans a city square. The Antequera dolmens are free only for EU citizens, and the Lugdunum Museum beside the Fourvière theatre charges a small fee.
